Becca and I decided to go for a hike today – a late start but the weather was perfect. Rattlesnake Canyon is only about 10 minutes away from home which made it the right choice for a lazy Sunday morning hike.
If you’ve never done this hike, I highly suggest it. It is a relatively easy 2 miles up and a very easy 2 mile return. We made it to the top in about 45 minutes and down much quicker.
Even though it is a very dry season, there was still water in both creek crossings. The second has some a lot of rock-hopping and bouldering opportunities and is always a nicely shaded resting spot.
Most front country hikes give you a great view of the ocean once at the top. Rattlesnake Canyon’s view is decent from the meadow at the top, but was obscured by some low clouds and haze. If you’re hiking for much better views, choose Inspiration Point or Tangerine Falls.
If you have dogs, bring them. Every time I’ve hiked here, it seems like every other hiker has one or two along with them.
